Healthcare Policy and Procedures at BPECC
General Statement
Children shall not attend school due to diarrhea, vomiting, sore or discharging eyes, profuse nasal discharge, skin rash or temperature over 100.0 degrees. Staff will give students an overall health check before they are removed from their car seat in carpool. If needed, temperatures will be taken. If a child does not meet these requirements, they will remain in their car seat in carpool. Children must be free from symptoms, without the use of medication, and on a normal food diet for a minimum of 48 hours before returning to school. (We require 24 hours for the sickness to pass, and an additional 24 hours to make sure the child is healthy enough to be off all medication and able to return to school.)
COVID-19
If a child or staff member has a positive test for COVID-19, parents/staff members will notify the school director. The positive child or staff member will quarantine at home for 5 days and needs to be symptom-free before being allowed to return to school. The Louisiana Department of Health will advise our director on a plan of action for the rest of the class/school on a case-by-case diagnosis. The action plan will cover alerting parents and staff as well as a quarantine strategy.
Exclusions until Proof of Non-carriage
Fever of unknown origin, continuing diarrhea, chicken pox, measles, skin rashes, fifth disease, pink eye and conjunctivitis, influenza and strep infection require a statement of good health from your child’s pediatrician.
Other Illnesses
With other illnesses, such as colds and viruses, children have already exposed others before becoming obviously ill. For this reason, a child may not attend school if the parent is unsure as to the child’s health. Keep your child home for observation. Your child may return to school once they are free of illness and medication for 48 hours. (We require 24 hours for the sickness to pass, and an additional 24 hours to make sure the child is healthy enough to be off all medication and able to return to school.)
Diarrhea
Stool must be controlled by a potty-trained child or contained inside a diaper. Any stool that is not controllable, contained, or mostly solid qualifies as diarrhea. A child may not attend school if they have diarrhea. Your child may return to school once they are free of illness and medication for 48 hours.
Antibiotics
A child may return to school when he or she is no longer contagious but continuing an antibiotic. However, a child must be on a normal diet and free from pain, fever, and diarrhea.
Allergies
Allergies must be documented by the child’s doctor. Epi Pens are used for emergencies and are cleared for use by the child’s doctor.
Illness and Injury
The parent or designated person shall be notified immediately if a child develops symptoms of illness or suffers an injury while in our care.
Postings
Contagious diseases and conditions such as chicken pox, fifth disease and head lice are posted. A notification will be sent to every parent, regardless of the class from which the illness originates. This notification is not intended to alarm, but rather to protect our families and our pregnant mothers. You will be asked to consult your family physician or pediatrician for advice.
